The Blessing of Aging

Ever heard of Colonel Harland Sanders? Probably not.
Ever heard of KFC? Most likely.
Do you know the connection between Sanders and KFC? Sanders is the founder of KFC.

At face value, that might not sound so fascinating. But what if I told you that KFC didn’t become KFC until Sanders was 70 years old? Would that sound more fascinating? Probably.

In his mid-60s, after years of working as a cook, service operator, and salesman, Sanders began the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) franchise. At 70, KFC became a national brand. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Imagine for a minute that Sanders had told himself he was too old to dream. Imagine if he believed the lie that being “old” meant he was “expired.” What if he had listened to the naysayers who told him he couldn’t do it because he was past his prime?
We probably wouldn’t have a KFC today.

We may never be able to count the number of potential “KFCs” that do not exist today simply because the dreamer decided their age was a limitation.

Aging doesn’t have to mean fading away.
You can still live a life of purpose, regardless of age.
All you need is discipline, grit, and a heart that is passionate about making a difference.

Take Morgan Freeman, for example. He had his breakthrough in Hollywood at the age of 52.
Viola Davis won her first major award; an Emmy, at 50. She also made history as the first Black woman to ever win that award.

If you search long and hard enough, you’ll find a trail littered with stories of people 50 and above whose careers and lives took a turn for the better as they got older.

This can be your story too.

At TENFoundation, this is at the core of what we do. We aim to create a world where every person, regardless of age, can be equipped to live meaningfully and finish strong.
